Nalini Singh – Kiss of Snow

The tenth book in the Psy-Changelings series, published May 31, 2011.

Kiss of Snow

Since the moment of her defection from the PsyNet and into the SnowDancer wolf pack, Sienna Lauren has had one weakness. Hawke. Alpha and dangerous, he compels her to madness.
Hawke is used to walking alone, having lost the woman who would've been his mate long ago. But Sienna fascinates the primal heart of him, even as he tells himself she is far too young to handle the wild fury of the wolf.
Then Sienna changes the rules-and suddenly, there is no more distance, only the most intimate of battles between two people who were never meant to meet. Yet as they strip away each other's secrets in a storm of raw emotion, they must also ready themselves for a far more vicious fight...
A deadly enemy is out to destroy SnowDancer, striking at everything they hold dear, but it is Sienna's darkest secret that may yet savage the pack that is her home-and the alpha who is its heartbeat.

I’m not going to summarize the book. I don’t want to give away any spoilers. I’ll just gush. I loved Sienna and Hawke. Sienna has been through so much since she was a little girl of 5, but she survived, she is strong and competent. But she never had the chance to be young, to play, and that is one of the things Hawke is offering her. Playtime.
Sienna is not just a Psy, she is X-psy. A very rare and dangerous species. If she cannot control her powers, she will burn, and as she is Cardinal strength, she will burn everything around her as well. X-psy normally don’t live very long. So why does Hawke keep turning her down?
Hawke is torn between his desire for Sienna and the knowledge at 19 she is just too young for him. He will never be able to offer her the mating bond, his mate died when he was 10 years old, and wolves mate for live. But he also can’t stand the sight for her in the arms of Kit, the young leopard alpha from the Dark River pack. His wolf is getting moodier and more aggressive, and this has its effect on the unmated males in the pack, he really has to make a decision about this all, and soon.

And of course, the Psy never leave them alone, and they are on the verge of a war. Everytime Hawke and Sienna are getting a little closer together, something bad happens to spur them into action. Sienna really is great in those situations, she keeps a cool head, and helps where needed. Under the not-so-tender care of Counsellor Ming Le Bon she learned a lot about military strategy, and that knowledge really comes in handy this time.

There is also the beautiful secondary romance of Walker and Lara, the healer. Both adults, and both knowing what they are getting into. After some hesitance, Walker decides to go for it. Go for the feelings Lara makes him enjoy.

The end of the book was very emotional, and yes, I did cry for Sienna. And not only in the end of the book. I love that little cub, Ben. Sienna’s brother also has a nice part in this book, I loved the haircut scene with Hawke. Needless to tell, the love scenes were great and hot, and although Hawke feared he could not take proper care of a virgin, he sure did. Sienna never backed down, no matter how fearsome Hawke would get, and I loved it in her. She tells him the truth as she sees it, straight forward. Never mind he is uber-alpha.

Nalini Singh belongs to the very best authors writing today, and I can’t wait to read what she comes up with next.

10 stars.

1 opmerking:

  1. I enjoyed KISS OF SNOW and thought Singh handled the age difference between the two, and the other issues, quite well. I also liked that Sienna remained a strong woman and didn't get weepy when things went wrong.
