Laurell K. Hamilton - Bullet

Bullet is the 19th book in the Anita Blake series. Some are very good, some are not so. You just love those books, or you hate them. But you really should try it. And do start with the first one in the series please.



The triumvirate created by master vampire Jean-Claude, necromancer Anita Blake, and werewolf Richard Zeeman has made Jean-Claude one of the most powerful vampires in the U.S. He's consolidating power in himself and those loyal to him, doing in America what Belle Morte did in Europe when she was at her height of power. She almost owned Europe, and there was those who are determined that Jean-Claude won't do the same in America. Jean-Claude's motives may be kinder, but as any lawyer will tell you: motives matter, but you're just as dead. Assassins are coming to St. Louis to kill them all. Anita knows they're coming, but even being forewarned doesn't mean you can win.



I have been eagerly awaiting this book, ever since that way too short story Flirt. And I was reading and reading, and waiting for the action to come, and suddenly, there were no more pages. And nothing really is resolved. Pff. No idea when the next book will be written, could be a year from now.
Anita’s life is going well, she is getting used to Nicky as her Bride (or Groom) as the were animals call it. She and Jean-Claude are courting the were tigers to come to town, to up their power base. And now Asher is acting out, he wants more attention than he is getting, and suddenly Richard is back in their lives, willing to do what he never before would. Does therapy really work that well?
Marmee Noir is dead, but not really. The members of the Council just couldn’t let all that power go to waste, and now she is a part of them, just like a puppetmaster. But she is not at full stenght yet, so they can fight her off this first time.
And as usual, time runs out of their hands, and Anita has to have sex with strangers to bind them to her, and to Jean-Claude, but this time, they also have sex with same sex partners, and I really don’t like reading about it. It is like Anita and Richard have both shed some of their last reservations, give in to their baser desires. And I don’t like them. So, I just skip those pieces, and get on with the story line.

Took me about 8 hours to read this book, and I enjoyed it, but not as much as I have hoped. There was just hiding and danger, and the tragedy with Haven, and too many loose ends left dangling. So, back to the waiting, and of course, the rereading …
